Business Intelligence Developer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

1. Power BI Development & Optimization

• Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards for KPIs such as, but not limited to:

o Production output & efficiency

o Machine downtime & maintenance schedules

o Quality control & defect rates

o Inventory & supply chain analytics

o Financial reporting & cost analysis

o Sales reporting

o Supply chain performance

o Customer KPIs

• Write optimized DAX formulas for complex business calculations.

• Ensure Power BI reports are optimized for performance, reducing query load times.

2. SQL Data Lake Integration & Data Modeling

• Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from SQL Data Lakes and other data sources into Power BI.

• Design efficient data models (star schema, snowflake) tailored to manufacturing data needs.

• Work with Azure Synapse, Data Factory, or other cloud data platforms for seamless data integration.

• Maintain data accuracy and consistency by implementing robust validation methods.

3. Data Governance & Security

• Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and user access control in Power BI reports.

• Ensure compliance with data governance policies and manufacturing industry regulations (ISO 9001, Six Sigma, etc.).

• Maintain historical data tracking for long-term trend analysis and forecasting.

4. Collaboration & Business Impact

• Work closely with production managers, supply chain teams, quality assurance, finance, and IT to identify reporting needs.

• Provide training and support to end users for effective use of Power BI dashboards.

• Collaborate with ERP teams (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) to integrate Power BI with existing manufacturing systems.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Expertise

• Power BI Development: Strong experience in DAX, Power Query (M), and data visualization best practices.

• SQL & Data Lakes: Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large manufacturing datasets in Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, or SQL Server.

• Data Modeling: Strong understanding of fact and dimension tables, star and snowflake schemas. Knowledgeable of Python/R script to extend PBI functionalities

• AI tools: Foundry, Fabric, Copilot etc.

• ETL & Data Integration: Experience in Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or other ETL tools for manufacturing data processing.

• Manufacturing Systems & ERP: Familiarity with SAP4HANA, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), and SCADA for data extraction.

Soft Skills

• Ability to translate manufacturing challenges into data-driven solutions.

• Strong problem-solving skills to optimize reports and improve real-time decision-making.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

• Prior work experience in automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery, or consumer goods manufacturing.

• Familiarity with AI/ML applications for predictive maintenance or demand forecasting in manufacturing.
